LONGWELL REMODEL

Alameda, CA

Recalling a visit to Pierre Chareau’s Maison der Ver in Paris, with its translucent glass block screens and carefully located window walls, we designed Dr. Bill Longwell’s art shelves, fireplace surround, and entertainment center with a stylish new look. New cherry wood cabinetry with hidden blind panel doors, glass display guardrails, stainless steel accessories, and aluminum reveals alongside maple wood floors, Zimbabwe Black granite hearth and counters becomes the material palette that eventually spread throughout the entire house. From kitchen, dining room, living room, to master bedroom and bathroom, we created an updated total work of art that provided varied locations for the owner to display his contemporary, modern, and tribal art. Integral to the renovation, was our understanding of the human scale—where views through various layers of clear, translucent, and open glass screens reveal activities of everyday life. In addition to an extensive interior renovation and addition, we selected all new modern lighting and furnishings including designs by Noguchi, Artemide, and B&B Italia.
